Here (a bit after the fact) is some birding news from my husband in rural
Kitsap County. Unfortunately, there are several feral cats on and around
our property, but it seems that this time the birds won.

One other update from our place: last Sunday evening we heard then
saw the first Common Nighthawk of the year over our property. One (or
more?) flew over our place often in the evenings last year and I was
hoping it/they would return--seems they have. Yea! --Anna Coles,

Ma, Pa and 3 ring-necked pheasant chicks in tall grass this afternoon. A
black & white cat jumped on one chick shortly after I started watching.
The chick reappeared with the female & 2 other chicks about 1/2 hr.
later. Guess the cat went hungry. Understand that pheasants are
introduced in N. America.
