Dennis, I believe South Cascade Swainson's give the soft "whit." Over in the
Pend O'Reille 7-11 June last week, I encountered the type with the more
vigorous call everywhere. Swainson's were common around Bunchgrass Mdws at
5,500' with Hermit, Varied and robins. I heard no Sweeney's uttering the soft
call in the NE corner.

Interestingly, Veeries are seemingly mostly absent in the extreme NE corner.
According to Jim Acton, after I asked him about this; he said he hasn't
recorded them north of Davis Lake in the Pend O'Reille River Vaalley. It
becomes an "interior wet belt" north of there to the Canadian border with much
red cedar and western hemlock + Doug fir and lodgepole pine. Ponderosa pine is
local and only on south-facing slopes.
