My most memorable experience with aerial assaults (actually defenses) was just
last year when photographing the Everett terns (WOSNEWS #32). I ignored the
close assaults on my noggin until (splat, splat) I was twice hit with
well-aimed excrement. I took the hint and left. It struck me that military
flyers could learn from the dive-bombing skills of these terns. My shirt never
recovered, which was only fair.
