Were you wearing your coonskin cap by chance?

In the late 20's my mother was selling Compton's Pictured Encylopedia
door-to-door while Dad was in Med school..as a result we had a set of
those books around the house. I seem to recall an anecdote about a great
horned owl that hit a guy, wearing a coonskin cap, from behind hard
enough to kill him..(or maybe it was Bent, or...) in any case, it must
have been quite a surprise..
