For the past 18 months, we have been observing sick and dying small
finches around our property, primarily pine siskins, but not limited
thereto. A month ago, we began adding 3 to 4 drops of Povidone-Iodine 10%
(Betadine) to our bird bath every time the water was changed, as the birds
like to drink from it. Reasoning that cholera is frequently a water-borne
disease, addition of a microbicide could help.

Since then, we have not observed a single sickly bird, nor found a dead
one. The birds continue to drink from the bird bath, and do not appear to
object to the taste. Has anyone else had experience such as this?
