On the other hand, a few years ago one of the chickens living in
Frenchglen, OR (south end of Malheur NWR) (are these "free range"
or "open range" chickens???) would look both ways before crossing
the one and only road through town.

I swear it's true, cracked me up.

I still have no idea WHY it wanted to cross the road, though...
