Some kinds are *relatively* specific, as with the 2-4-D types that will
kill broad-leaf (dicot) plants while sparing monocots and gymnosperms
(grasses/sedges and conifers), depending on concentration.
Theoretically, the folks using these -cides have been trained and
liscensed. When living in Oregon, I had a Pesticide Application
Liscense, for which I had to take a course and pass a test (something
that the average home gardener IS NOT required to do....).
