They're a quite distinct species, native to the east coast of Mexico, which
invaded southern Texas when they heard about NAFTA.* They have been
present only in and around the dump, although in recent years they have
started nesting in the immediate vicinity. They are there with Chihuahuan
Ravens, so you get a raven/crow contrast, both smaller than our local
species. The dump is a good place to observe all the plumages of Herring
and Laughing gulls (although I suppose Cape Cod would be a nicer place to
do so), as well as regular Lesser Black-backed Gulls.
