Raven numbers may have decreased in the southern Appalachians, I don't
know about that, but in southern New England, which includes some of the
Appalachian Mountains, Common Ravens have increased rather dramatically in
the last 20 years. In central and western Massachusetts, for example,
there is a viable and population of ravens now (I recall reports of a
winter roost of 50+ birds) where in the 1970s ravens were absent, as far
as I know.
