Tweeters,

In our area of SW WA, there is a place called Pigeon
Bluffs (near Rosburg, Wahkiakum co.). This place
reputedly in the 1970's and before hosted "thousands"
of BT Pigeons, right around Sept 1st each yr, the
start of the hunting season. We first heard about
this (my wife Ann Musche' and I) when we moved to
the area in 1981. By this time already, the BTPs
were referred to in the past tense. We went to the
Pigeon Bluffs area several times each fall, hoping
to see remnants of such a show -- with no large
results. The largest flocks of BTPI we have ever
seen in the Wahkiakum / Pacific / Grays Hbr / Cowlitz
co area from 1981 to the present have been in the
50-or-less category, generally about 10 to 20 in a year.
Just last year, we were surprised to see a group
of about 75 near Naselle, where we live. Over the past
14 yrs, it has seemed here that they have already
declined drastically and show no signs of reversing
the trend. We have never had more than 6 at our
feeders at one time, in this same time span.
