No, but they are both branches of the original Zeiss, which as I mentioned
was located in Jena. Jena was run by the East German state. Carl Zeiss
was restarted by refugees from the east, in essence. At some point they
won the use to use the name Carl Zeiss internationally - if you see
binoculars or a camera lens labelled "Carl Zeiss" you can be certain
they aren't Jena.

I think you're splitting hairs here, as there are really three firms
which now link their heritage to the orginal Zeiss: Carl Zeiss, Jena,
and Kiev. Kiev and Jena got all the original factory gear I believe,
Carl Zeiss was truly a phoenix type affair. I'm not sure where the
funding came from, part could well have come from Hassleblad.
