This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, March 10, 1995.

Jeff Wisman reports a male and female rufous-morph EURASIAN WIGEON
on the Saltese Flats, west of Liberty Lake and southeast of
Spokane on March 4. There was a little conjecture this may have
been the same pair reported from St. Maries last week by Cody and
John Montgomery and Dan Svingen. Jeff also reports 5 BALD EAGLES,
2 SHORT-EARED OWLS, and 2-4 TUNDRA SWANS at the same locale.
According to Jeff, 2 more male EURASIAN WIGEONS joined the pair on
March 7, bringing the total to 4 birds. See Washington DeLorme p.
89, between c- and d-7.5.

Another male EURASIAN WIGEON was reported by Larry Marsh on March
4 and again on March 8. This bird was near Spangle, Washington.
Take Jennings Road west from US 195 near Spangle and go about 2
miles to Philleo Lake, which is on the right near an old farm
house. Larry also reports 4 TRUMPETER SWANS there as well. See
Washington DeLorme p. 73, a-5.

TUNDRA SWANS (formerly Whistling Swans) were reported this past
week from the Pend Oreille River near Newport, Washington by Jana
Coleman (sp?) and Claire Weiser (sp?) reported six swans south of
Pullman about 0.8 miles south of the intersection of Bradshaw Road
and US 195.
.
I saw the SNOWY OWL in Moscow on March 8. It is still in the
pasture south of Idaho 8 near the Wal-Mart parking lot, and west
of the sewage treatment plant. I saw the bird in the lonely
willow, sitting on a large limb that overhung Paradise Creek.

I observed a first-winter GLAUCOUS GULL on the log booms on Banks
Lake, near the North Dam, on the east end of Electric City,
Washington on March 8. See Washington DeLorme p. 85, a-8.

Finally, John Shipley and Dan Svingen both report TREE SWALLOWS
from the Thompson Lake, Anderson Lake area just north of Harrison,
Idaho during the last 10 days of February.
