I am preparing a field study on the effects of forest fragmentation
on forest birds in temperate South America (Tierra del Fuego). This
will emphasize landscape ecology, considering spatial variables
(patch size, isolation and connectivity) as well as internal stand
characteristics. Although the species to be studied is still
undetermined, the magellanic woodpecker (Campephilus magellanicus) is the
most likely; other possibilities include Strix rufipes, Accipiter
bicolor, and Buteo ventralis. I am trying to find out who in this region
(particularly NW Washington) does field research on similar species
(including, perhaps, pileated woodpeckers), OR uses a landscape ecology
approach to forest-fragmentation effects. Please contact:
