Fellow Tweets, Apologies to those also subscribed to Birdchat, but I
was wondering what the occurrence of the chimney and vaux's swifts is in
Washington: east? west? I know I have heard of sightings of vaux's
swifts somewhere in Washington. Anyway, hope someone finds this of
interest. --Anna Coles, SEattle, acoles at u.washington.edu

Nest Box Study and Grant Program for Chimney and Vaux's Swifts

A program to develop nesting structures for Chimney and Vaux's Swifts is being
sponsored by the Paul and Georgean Kyle of the Driftwood Wildlife Association
and Sam Droege. Our goal is to sponsor individuals interested in testing new
nest box designs for these declining species. Because of the rapid
disappearance of suitable nesting chimneys, the future of these species may
depend on the availability of nesting boxes. While we know that at least
Chimney Swifts will readily accept some types of nest boxes, only a handful of
boxes have been built to date. We hope that by providing a bit of seed money
and a set of proven designs individuals and groups will use their creative
energies to help develop an effective and inexpensive set of nest box
designs.

To receive a complete information packet, including site monitoring forms, grant
request, specifications on proven structure and a detailed narrative history of
the Twin Towers at the Mansfield Dam Bird Banding Station please write to: Paul
and Georgean Kyle c/o Driftwood Wildlife Association, 1206 West 38th, Suite
1105, Austin, TX 78705.

This is your opportunity to combine your problem solving and natural history
skills. Please give us a hand.

Thank you.
