In all this weeks discussion of albinism, I dont recall any mention of
swallows. The only all-white birds (no, I dont remember seeing the eye color)
Ive ever seen were two juvenile Barn Swallows, spotted several years apart,
though both in Snohomish County. The first was, me thinks, in the early fall
of 1983 in Arlington. I still have several crapy B&W prints of that bird. The
second was several years later at the Everett sewage ponds at the same time of
year when swallows gather to discuss routes south. In both cases I noted both
birds being constantly harassed by their fellows. I remember thinking that if
their brothers/sisters gave them such a hard time, its no wonder I never saw
an albino swallow in the spring.
