Also, there was a hantavirus fatality in Hood River. At the time, the
death was unclassified, but after the epidemic in the Southwest the
CDC asked that tissue examples taken from folks who'd died from
undetermined disease be re-examined. Thus it was learned that this
kid in Hood River died from hantavirus.

Your chances of inhaling fecal matter is much lower in wet conditions,
i.e. springtime west of the mountains.
