Dennis notes that doves have very loose feathers.

Band-tailed Pigeons also have quite loose feathers. Pigeon hunters in
the Willamette Valley used to complain that their fancy retrievers and
spaniels would not retrieve pigeons, as they did not like to get all the
loose feathers in their mouths. Usually, the best "pigeon dog" was some
old mutt that "didn't know any better".

I have never handled Rock Doves - C. livia - Do they likewise have this
extremely loose body plumage?
