Never expected to see such a message thread take-off from my first
posting about Band-Tailed Pigeons, but have enjoyed watching the
dialog. Have learned some things as well. Have only been able to
scan all the information being shared on the list, as I have
succumbed to "information overload" from the volume.

No more pigeons here recently, but have lots of others to watch. A
week ago a pair of adult Bald Eagles circled above the house for
about 15 minutes, calling to each other. Yesterday we could here one
calling again in the woods behind our house. This is all second
growth mixed fir and alder, at edge of Dash Point State Park
property. We'll be watching to see if they set-up housekeeping, and
let you know. Heard and saw a Great Horned Owl last night, again,
flew from one of the trees at the edge of the woods behind our house.

Our first Violet Green Swallow showed up today, so hung the nest
box out. Rainier Audubon spent one Saturday building 170 nest boxes,
100 of which will be placed in Kent, Auburn and Federal Way parks for
our aerobatic friends. A few are available for purchase if anyone is

Just cut-up an Alder snag that fell in our yard in January, and
found a number of large grubs burrowing in the decaying wood.
Decided to see who might come feast on them, so put a dozen or so in
a pan with sawdust and soil out for the birds. A Stellar's Jay
finally found them and took all.

This is exactly what makes living in the Northwest what it is - now
I need to get on to the government letter writing to try to keep the
livability what it is.
