Your comments reminded me to ask you what you think about the latest satellite
that was recently put into orbit? One of its most intrigueing features is
remote sensing of DNA which will allow mapping of the exact location (to within
3ft) of *all* individuals of any species be it bird or otherwise. The system is
still quite slow though and takes about a full day to map an entire species in
North America. ;-)
