We have a bushtit nest in our pear tree. Might I ask a few questions? All
winter we had a flock of ten or so bushtits come to our feed daily. Then
none, then 2, then I discovered the nest. Are all the others just fanned out
in the neighborhood and our yard is now an exclusive territory for our
bushtit pair? Watching from a distance, the nest being built, two went in
and out regularly. Then there was a string of sunny days, the lawn had to be
mowed in the area, and no bushtit activity. I also could no longer see the
entrance into the nest, it was covered with leaves. During this time no
bushtits come to my feeder. Three weeks later the bushtits are now back at
the feeder a few times a day, unlike the continual times in the winter. But
no activity around the nest. Are they eating bugs now and don't need me
much? Is the female in the nest and does not come out for the duration?
Have I scared them away. Anyway to tell but with patience and time? Are
there young in there now and that is why they are back to needing my food.
Peanut butter OK? They love it. Could someone give me a short bushtit
