Still quite a few shorebirds around Gray's Harbor. Two aerial surveys
organised by Fish & Wildlife to search for radio-tagged birds marked at Grays
Harbor and San Francisco produced the following:

May 5:

2 San Francisco birds
6 Grays Harbor birds

May 7

1 San Francisco bird
4 Grays Harbor birds


Already over 12 of the 20 birds marked in San Francisco Bay and Grays Harbor
have been located in Alaska, mostly on the Copper River Delta, but
interestingly 1 bird at Bristol Bay.

1500-2000 Short-billed Dowitchers/Red Knot
300-500 Whimbrel/Marbled Godwit
2000+ Semi-palmated Plover
15-20,000 Dunlin, Western Sandpipers
20 Black Turnstone

May 7 - 07.30 - 09.30 hrs

25,000+ birds in the bay

<200 Whimbrel/Marbled Godwit
20 Sanderling
23-25000 Dunlin, Western Sandpipers.
350 Brant

Interestingly enough almost no Red Knot/Short-billed Dowitcher sized birds
were seen. Peep numbers had definitely increased - whether through more
influxes or perhaps a roost site was missed on May 5. The survey was made
about 1 hour before high tide.
