Subject: Black-tailed Godwit in BC?!
Date: May 8 12:13:09 1995
From: Donald Cecile - dcecile at cln.etc.bc.ca

This message is to inform interested birders that I received a phone call
last night of a potential Black-tailed Godwit on the West Coast of
Vancouver Island in Tofino. Rory Patterson phoned me to say that she saw
what she thought might be a BT Godwit. She described it as having white
axillaries, straightish bill and black tail. It was found at high tide
near the Sharp Road hatchery (same location as previous Falcated Teal).
To reach the area, drive towards Tofino, stop approximately 4 kms south
of town at the Dolphin Motel. Take the gravel road to the right and you
will shortly arrive at a good viewing area. High tide would be the best
time.
Today, May 8 around 6:30 - 7pm PST is high tide.
I will be going to Tofino this afternoon/ evening to try to locate the bird.
If anyone wishes further information on its status or for other viewing
spots contact:
