Subject: tufted puffins on Protection Is this year?

Does anyone have updated info about the breeding status or even presence
of the puffins on Protection Island this year?

I took the Port Townsend Marine Science Ctr's boat trip around the island
in late April, and there were no puffins at that time. There were lots
of glaucous-winged gulls staking claims and cormorant nests along the
ridgelines. The accompanying naturalist on the trip said that breeding
puffin pairs had fallen from 40+ to only about 19 last season. He
suggested that there may be no breeding puffins at all this year.

Is there a book or journal report(s) about the breeding bird population
on Protection Island? Thanks for any help.
