To even out these discussions of brave attacks of Golden Eagles on
overwhelming prey, I once saw a Golden Eagle fly by with an American Coot in
its talons. It landed not too far from us and the coot demonstrated that it
was still alive by chasing the eagle around the oak tree. The Eagle
eventually flew off without the coot! I am glad I have witnesses that will
back me up on this one. I have always known that coots are obnoxious but this
seemed a bit much.

I got to examine an eagle nest once after the fledglings had gone. It did
have a variety of remnants of fawns. We figured that they were obtained up
the hill from the nest. But still an impressive accomplishment.
