Last winter one hung out at the Puyallup Fish Hatchery and nearby woods
along Clark's Creek,--which runs through DeCoursey Park in Puyallup-- for at
least a couple of months. I plan to keep an eye out this winter to see if
it comes back. An immature bald eagle showed up several times, in the same
area, as did a mature bald eagle two times, to my knowledge. Those of us in
the 'burbs of Puyallup find bald eagles to be rather exotic in this
immediate area, since it is more in town than out of town. They seem to be
coming in for salmon that head up Clark's creek, and then occasionally take
advantage of the Park offerings-- I saw the immature munching on a mallard
in a nearby church parking lot one afternoon. The egret apparently
concentrates on the State's offerings in the hatchery ponds, as do several
GBH's, king fishers, and in summer some herons of the green persuasion.
