Near the valley floor between Twisp and Carlton in the Methow Valley a
WHWP "pair" has been spotted in late Sept. and early Oct.. This is on
private land held for wildlife habitat and surrounded on three sides by
national forests. Five of us are placing restrictions on this land, and
working to restore any areas to native vegetation (after grazing). Also,
we plan to work with the forest service and neighbors in managing this
area around our 100 acres.
Does anyone know of the migration habits of the woodpeckers?
How many sightings (pairs) have been recorded in the area and the state?
Any other info. that may be of interest to us?
We would like to offer this area to birders and other naturalists for
viewing and enjoying after the winter. We would like to have others help
us with surveying the land and offer this area as another natural place
to explore. It is really quite extraordinary and great habitat. I
will place the information as to the access for this area in spring
when the wildflowers and birds start to enjoy the land.
