Subject: "a Hawk, called a Lanner"

I am trying to put together materials for my wildlife law course next
semester. One of the cases I am considering using is an English case
decided in 1572. Two knights are arguing about ownership of "a Hawk,
called a Lanner." The case implies that it was used in falconery.
My bird books are restricted primarily to North America and I come up
empty.
Any ideas?
