Hi Tweets, here's the official BBA rendition of White-headed Woodpeckers
in Washington (that's WWW if you need an acronym!). Confirmed nests are
recorded from Asotin, Yakima, and Chelan counties. other spots with
possible nesting status are known from Klickitat, Kittitas, Okanogan, and
Stevens counties. No records from Ferry Co., but seems likely they are
there, just underreported. A curious record comes from the block just
south of Salmo Mt in Pend Oreille Co., but this is surely a coding error
(probably a 3-toed WP). More precisely, here are the sites I have in my
database. Any additions (besides the ones posted already) are welcome,
within the last 10 years.

Way up the Klickitat R. Possible
Ahtanum Crk. Possible
Oak Crk. Confirmed

Cook Crk. Possible

Chelan Co.:
Stemilt Crk. Confirmed
Camas Crk. burn Possible
Swakane Wildlife Area Probable
Entiat R. Confirmed
above Stehekin Possible

Okanogan Co.:
Twisp R. Possible
Chewack R. Possible
Hooker Crk. area Possible

Stevens Co.:
Little Pend Oreille NWR Possible

Asotin Co.:
Fields Springs SO Confirmed

They also occur up into Canada's Okanogan Valley. Personally, I have
only seen them at Wenas Crk. area (thrice), and once at Camas Crk. Burn.
The latter observation was timely, as it was on our birdathon woodpecker
big day. We saw 5 species here in about 1 hour (RN Sapsucker,
Black-backed WP, Hairy WP, White-headed WP,. Flicker). Yahoo!
