On a short morning trip up to Baldy Pass, northwest of Conconully (Okanogan
County), last Sunday A.M. (11/5), the birds of note were:

- 1 Northern Pygmy Owl, at the top of a tall snag about halfway up to the
pass (3-4000' elevation ?)
- 12-18 WW Crossbills at the pass in two separate small flocks (life bird for
me, finally made it to E. Washington after hearing for months on Tweeters how
ubiquitous they were this year)
- large mixed flocks of nuthatches, siskins, mt chickadees (no boreals
despite some searching)

at lower elevations in the general area,
- 3 golden eagles,
- 1 northern shrike (hunting, while hovering, like a kestrel - I'd never seen
this behavior in a shrike before ?)
