Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday November 9. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

Thousands of WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were gathered on the ocean off Heceda
Head and the Sea Lion Caves November 5. Perhaps the two on the Prineville
Sewage Ponds November 3, and the two different White-Wingeds there the next
day were part of the same movement.

A HARRIS' SPARROW began coming to a feeder near Waldport November 2. Very
heavy migrations over the ocean just offshore was noted November 5,
primarily of PACIFIC LOONS and KITTIWAKE'S. Two CASSIN'S AUKLETS, a
RHINOCEROS AUKLET, an ANCIENT MURRELET, two OLDSQUAWS, two RED PHALAROPES
and a probable SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATER were also identified among the
swarm.

A group fo 12 ROCK SANDPIPERS and a rather tame single bird were on the
Suth Jetty of Yaquina Bay November 5. There was a SWAMP SPARROW at the
southwest corner of Idaho Flats inside the bay and the SNOWY EGRET was on
the log rafts near the oyster farm on the upper Bay.

A SNOW BUNTING was on the open beach on Nestucca Spit November 5. One was
at Netarts Bay the same day. The day before one was in Nehalem Meadows and
five were near Barview Jetty at the entrance to Tillamook Bay.

Two OLDSQUAWS were upstream from the entrance to Netarts Bay November 3. A
PARASITIC JAEGER was chasing BONAPARTE'S GULLS and KITTIWAKES at the mouth
of the Columbia River November 5.

The EMPEROR GOOSE, a BRANT, 300 SNOW GEESE, and 22 GREAT EGRETS were on
Sauvie Island November 2. Over 20,000 CANADA GEESE were on the Island that
day.

Up to 72 GREAT EGRETS are now gathered on Smith Lake in North Portland. On
November 5 an adult male OLDSQUAW in winter plumage was on nearby Bybee
Lake.

Large numbers of PINE SISKINS are now in the Cascades south of Mt. Hood. On
November 4, 106 RING-NECKED DUCKS and 30 BUFFLEHEAD were on Clear Lake in
that area. Two BARROW'S GOLDENEYE and a RED-NECKED GREBE were on Timothy
Lake November 3.

Both COMMON and BARROW'S GOLDENEYE are now gathering on Central Oregon
lakes, especially Hatfield Lake near Bend, the Prineville Sewage Ponds, and
at the Lower Dam near Warm Springs. A HARLAN'S RED-TAILED HAWK was south of
Culver along LaSalle Road November 3.

Large numbers of hawks were seen November 4 in the Christmas Valley-Fort
Rock area including many ROUGH-LEGGED and FERRUGINOUS HAWKS. A late BARN
SWALLOW was at Ana Reservoir near Summer Lake November 5.

Large numbers of AMERICAN ROBINS and CEDAR WAXWINGS are in Central Oregon
now. SCRUB JAY sightings are increasing in Bend this fall. One appeared at
Fossil October 30 and has remained.
