This co-host thing is not limited to red-breasted geese and
gyrfalcons, it's been well documented in lots of other species:

wood pigeon (similar to band-tailed pigeon) and European kestrel
great black-backed gull and eider
arctic tern and ruddy turnstone

Terns benefit in the latter from the turnstones prowess at driving
off jaegers. There is a cost in this case however as the turnstones
eat tern eggs.
