Let me stick my two cents worth in . I was stationed at the U.S. Army
Hospital in Augsburg, Germany (Bavaria) from July 1971 to Dec 1975.
During that time, I occassionally went birdwatching in the surrounding
countryside. AlthoughI don't have my notes handy here in Bellingham, I
recall at least three sightings of the Hoopoe in the area. (They resemble
a big butterfly, when flying).
