I am running a Christmas Count workshop at Sauvie Isalnd on December 9
thru PAS (to which, of course, anyone can come). The focus of the
half-day clinic will be to introduce people to techniques of Christmas
Counts as well as giving some practical information like bring extra
socks, etc. The workshop will be done primarily in the field, but one
element I am planning is some sort of handout to highlight some of the
important tips for Christmas Counts. I have a few in mind but am looking
for suggestions from the listening audience.
There are two types of feedback I am looking for:
a) points of emphasis that need to be made to make people with few or no
counts under their belts useful right away--this would probably come from
those who have counted before.
b) questions or concerns of newer birders with regard to the Count--I
know many people are lurking out there who have gone to just a few or no
counts: what I'd like to know is items from your perspective that you
would like to know about further, concerns or questions you have,
problems you've faced or anticipate you'll face. Your presence is needed
and wanted more than you may think.
