The mountain quail that summered on our old property in Kitsap did a
walking migration of about 450 m (0.3 mi) for the winters. Something
moved the quail block about 50 m one autumn, but I could never figure what
would be that intereseted in it. I don't think I could eat quail since
I've seen the chicks out at snail firs (the property we recently sold).
If you're into mountain quail, check the fields near brush in Kitsap
county near View Park road about 1/4 to 1/2 mi. E. of Banner road. Also
frequently nighthawks above the clearcut in banner forest in summer,
sometimes western tanagers in the forest itself.
