It is a trivial point but I can't help myself.

Long-toed salamanders frequently deposit eggs singly on the bottom of shallow
ponds. At a small, ephemeral pond on The Evergreen State College campus there
are thousands of eggs scattered about in the short grass-and-herb-covered
pond bottom each January. They also attach their eggs in loose clusters to
sticks and the stalks of various plants but they appear not to require this.

Northwestern salamanders appear to require something to attach to. I am
waiting to hear if any of these are seen at the Fill. It seems quite possible
that they have survived in the area.
