Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday November 16. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

The WHOOPER SWAN returned to Summer Lake November 14. It was found on the
pond along Hwy 31 across from the Wildlife Area Headquarters. Park in the
Headquarters parking lot for the best view.

A GYRFALCON was at Baskett Slough NWR west of Salem November 9 and 10. A
MOCKINGBIRD was along Netarts Bay Road at Bileu Street November 14. A BROWN
THRASHER is now coming to a feeder in Tigard. The owner does not want
birders visiting - yet. When he does allow visitors the word will be
passed.

A BOBOLINK was at the South Jetty of Yaquina Bay November 12. A PACIFIC
GOLDEN-PLOVER was there November 9. That day a CATTLE EGRET along Bayview
Drive on the north side of Alsea Bay and a PALM WARBLER was near the
entrance to the Marine Science Center in Newport.

Up to 100 ANCIENT MURRELETS are being seen from Boiler Bay and Yaquina Head
along with many other alcids. On November 11 ten SOOTY SHEARWATERS, a
SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATER and two NORTHERN FULMARS were close to the rocks at
Boiler Bay. A ROCK SANDPIPER is regularly being seen on the rocks at Depoe
Bay now.

On November 11 six WHITE-TAILED KITES, five SHORT-EARED OWLS, over 200
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT were in the meadowlands
just south of Tillamook.

On November 15 a male PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER in full breeding plumage was at
the South Jetty of the Columbia River.

On November 12 a female SURF SCOTER, 100 SANDHILL CRANES and six GREATER
YELLOWLEGS were on Sauvie Island. Several hundred SNOW GEESE have been
along Oak Island Road all week.

A BARN SWALLOW was along the Columbia Slough in North Portland November 14.
There are still many GREAT EGRETS at Smith Lake.

Three Rocky Mountain type HAIRY WOODPECKERS are now coming to a feeder near
Estacada along with several of the smaller and darker local birds.

LEWIS' WOODPECKERS are now being seen near Perrydale, west of Amity, and
along Wihoit Springs Road south of Mollala.

A group of six SNOW BUNTINGS have been in the meadowlands west of Halsey in
the Willamette Valley since November 11. They are along Harmony Road north
of the Pope and Talbot plant.

On November 9 a HEERMANN'S GULL was at Lake Ewauna in Klamath Falls. On
November 11, a SABINE'S GULL was at Lake Ewauna. Over 150 BONARPARTE'S
GULLS are also in the area.
