This reminds me of an expired Violet-green Swallow I found last summer.
It had clearly had a fatal run-in with something quite solid. I took it
home and put it in a ziplock baggie with an index card explaining details
of where/when I found it, temperature (of the air, not the dead tweetie)
etc.

Now it sits in the freezer, waiting for another brilliant idea of mine in my
infrequent attempts at ornithology. Hmmm, maybe I should skin it and start
my own museum collection? Then I can compete with Dennis on IDing stuffed
birds!

On the other hand, I've no doubt broken the law and will be in danger of
federal prosecution :-O

As Patty noted in her post - seeing these little tweets in hand, even when
they're dead, gives one a marvelous appreciation of the intricate beauty
they posses.
