Don't know about the bird populations in the NW, but the
wildlife around Chernobyl has exploded in response to the
evacuation of people. I believe the article I saw was in
Science within the last few months, but I've discarded all
of mine. Supposedly, the animals do have a high rate of
mutation, but wild animals virtually never live long evough
to get cancer.

Supports my contention that nuclear power is the best
way to go, as long as we nature lovers get to demand a *big*
buffer zone around the nuclear waste repository, one that
would be off-limits to any interference by people.
