I want to also add the WSU Conner Museum as a potential specimen drop
site. You may call Kevin Pullen at (509)335-3515. Any birds (including
House Sparrows and Starlings!), mammals, or herps can be used. Starlings
and House Sparrows have also been useful in the past for teaching ornithology
students study skin preparation techniques.
Conner Museum has a great collection, and I encourage anyone to visit
(and perhaps see if Kevin or a volunteer has the time to take you on
a tour of the research collection and prep room) if you happen to be
in Pullman. (Sorry, Kev!) Make sure to call ahead about a tour--Kevin's
overworked and most of his volunteers are students with classes to
attend.
I know others have said the same, but I will say it again: Make sure all
data from the collection is written down at the time of collection and put
IN the bag with the specimen. It can be used without information, but is
mostly useless for research purposes without it!
