This morning my sister called asking for help in identifying a bird which had crashed into her sliding glass door. She found it (dead) this morning.
I suggested she freeze it for possible donation to a collection, as her description did not sound like t he most common window victim.

I hung up and took out my field guide. The most likely candidate was a Virginia Rail. I called back, and sure enough, she and her friend had also decided it was a Virginia Rail.
She lives in Everett in a new development near Pigeon Creek.

It surprised me that a rail should become the victim of a window. Is this unusual?
Also, what kind of info should she record about the incident if she does donate it to a collection?
Thanks.
