LoAnne,
Upper Newport Bay (San Joachin Marsh) is excellent. It is about a mile or 2
west of the UCI campus. Salton Sea is noted for exotics. I like the *old*
condor refuge area on the very rough road just N of Fillmore, CA; up I-5 to
St. Hwy. 126, W to Fillmore, N up the canyon as far as you dare. All of
these are within a days drive of Clairmont.
