Hello,

I participated in Project Feeder Watch for several years when I lived in
Richmond Beach (just north of Seattle). It really is a great incentive to
watch your feeders; never would have seen the Brown Creeper that, after I
started to really pay attention, turned out to be a regular feature in my
backyard. On the other end of the spectrum, I would have had to have been
totally oblivious to have missed the two Great Blue Herons who were
roosting in my Douglas Firs; I was clambering around on my roof, checking
it out after a very bad storm, and apparently disturbed the herons. They
burst out of the trees and flapped about five feet over my head. Kind of
like being buzzed by B-52s.

I got disconnected from Feeder Watch when I moved to Vashon Island last
year. Cornell was going to start up an email-based Feeder Watch program,
and I put myself on the interest list, but never heard anything again.
Does anyone out there know what happened to this idea? I didn't see
anything on the homepage about it.

But even though I am not officially participating right now, I atttribute
the following to Feeder Watch "training:" we spotted our first Red
Breasted Sapsucker in our yard this last weekend...an appropriate bird
indeed.
