Eric, I use AviSys v3.1. This is the old DOS box version, not the
mouse-enabled v3.5. It still comes with all the state and provincial
checklists (minus Saint Pierre et Miquelon) which I update quarterly
with Tony White's newsletter. Note this is a totally relational
database like Access. No 640k barrier here 'cuz I run OS/2. I could
run 20 instances of AviSys if I wanted to (usually just 3 or so going,
though). The paramount thing to remember with *any* birding software
is that you must discipline yourself to actually enter the sightings
into the program. Otherwise it becomes yet another waste of space on
your hard drive and money down the drain. Such discipline can reap
great rewards when the data is exported into a spreadsheet, more
powerful database, or a graphics package... or, heck, in this day and
age, a GIS program!!!
