The bird, a juvenile going into first-winter plumage, was the only phalarope
at Mann Lake, October 1. It is Idaho's 4th record. Interestingly, one was
collected here on Sept 22, 1957 by Burleigh. Idaho's other records are from
the St. Joe River in northern Idaho in the 1930's and from the southeast
portion of the state, near Harriman State Park along the Henry's Fork by
Hammond and Trost on Oct 5, 1991.

If you want to go looking for it, here are directions:

Entering Lewiston from the north, at the bottom of the Lewiston grade take
US 12 west into Lewiston, cross the Clearwater River. Immediately across
the river, take the first left toward East Lewiston. Follow Main Street to
the blinking yellow light and turn right on Lapwai Road (eventually Lindsay
Creek Road). At the "Y", stay right onto Lindsay Creek Road and follow it
about 4 miles to Grelle Avenue. Left onto Grelle. Just past the 20 mph
right turn, turn left. Immediately you'll see a sign for Mann Lake.
Continue straight one mile to the dead end. The bird was feeding between
the boat ramp and the model airplane club on the east side of the reservoir.
