Also on 10/1 on Sauvie Island, there were several groups of TVs
thermaling (hi, Irene!) over the agricultural fields bordering
the refuge. Ranged from three to fifteen individuals per
"kettle" ("kettle-ette"?). It is common to see these critters
migrating south over the island about this time of year. More
common over fields than at ridge sites known for concentrations
of migrating soaring birds, though we do see a few glide down
Goshute ridge each year. They're so good at finding thermals
and exploiting them that they don't seem particularly attracted
to ridges.

What's this, a broad-wing sighting? (I've been gone, as I'm sure
you've all noticed - BWHKs in the PNW are of particular interest
to me, one of you want to e-mail me the poop on this?)
