Hello, this is Portland Audubon's Rare Bird Alert. This recording was made
Thrusday October 5. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976.

On September 29 a juvenile COMMON POCHARD was found on the display pond in
Hat Rock State Park, along the Columbia River northeast of Hermiston. It
was last reported during the morning of October 3, but is believed to be
still in the area.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was at Malheur NWR Headquarters September 27. On
September 30, a male BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was in the Catlow Valley
and another was in the woods at Fields. On September 28, a CHESTNUT-SIDED
WARBLER was banded on Cape Blanco. A breeding plumaged male TENNESSEE
WARBLER was at Clear Lake, south of Mt. Hood September 30. An immature
MAGNOLIA WARBLER was in Seaside October 1. All of these birds were migrants
and did not remain.

On October 2 PALM WARBLERS were searching the rocks on the South Jetty of
Yaquina Bay. A RED-NECKED GREBE was nearby. Shorebirds are still moving
along the coast with both PACIFIC and AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS, PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS, and BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS being regularly reported.

Good numbers of GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS and AMERICAN ROBINS arrived in the
Portland area during the week. A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was at the Forest Grove
Ponds October 1.

Heavy TURKEY VULTURE movements were reported during the week in the
Portland area. A kettle of 79 was over Garden Home October 2. A kettle of
about 200 were over Lake Oswego the morning of October 4, while others were
observed over Beaverton.

Several LEWIS' WOODPECKERS were seen during the week in Polk County near
Perrydale.

A RED-NECKED GREBE was on Timothy Lake in the Cascades and two were at Hat
Rock State Park during the week. WESTERN GREBES are also showing up both
inland and along the coast. Late CASPIAN TERNS were reported from several
areas, the latest was an injured bird at the mouth of the John Day River
October 2.

Thats all for this week.
