Regarding the previous discussion on Merlin nests, I agree with all that
they are certainly rare. Here are some known records that I've come up with:

pre-1953 Puyallup Valley (Jewett et al. 1953)
pre-1953 Bumping Lake, Yakima Co. (Jewett et al. 1953)
1972 nest in a piling on the Pend Oreille River, T32N R44E SE
1976 fledgelings taken near Goldendale by falconer, T03N R16E SW
reported as _richardsoni_, but this seems highly unlikely
1981 nest in old growth - Swauk Cr. Canyon, T19N R17E NW
1989 probable nest in Moran St Park, Orcas I. T37N R01W SW
1989 BBA probable nesting status, T19N R02E SW (Ft. Lewis)
1992 BBA probable nesting status, T19N R20E SE (Colockum Pass area)
mid-1980's Hoh Visitor Center probable nest site, no details yet.

Several summer sightings are in the BBA, but with no evidence of nesting.
