I am continuing my efforts to understand I 640 the Gillnet ban. I talked to a
former fisherman who claimed that big industry has an interest in seeing the
commercial fisheries damaged because this would take out a big voice that
calls for protection of the forest habitats. I also listened to a debate on
KUOW's Weekday program. I have ordered a tape of the program and will have
that available if anybody wants to borrow it from me. The Yes on 640 claim
that it is the save our sealife initiative. The no on 640 side point to the
groups that oppose it like the Sierra Club, American Rivers, Friends of the
Earth, Toxic Coalition, Wilderness Society, People for Puget Sound, Northwest
Ecosystem Alliance, the League of Woman Voters and Washington State Audubon.
(I didn't know there was a state wide Audubon). Listening to the debate is
difficult because most of the time each person is just accusing the other of
lying. I shall continue my efforts of finding some form of truth.
