Subject: ACTION ALERT--More time to ring the White House (fwd)
Date: Oct 10 16:47:04 1995
From: Dennis Paulson - dpaulson at ups.edu

This message was forwarded by Van Remsen, an ornithologist and birder who,
like all of us, is hoping there will still be some habitat around at the
turn of the century. Lately I have been forwarding only a subset of
messages received, because otherwise every day is too depressing!

Note that lobbying by e-mail seems to be fairly ineffective (doubtless
because it's soooo easy), but phone calls and snail mail are still quite
effective.

>> STILL TIME TO RING THE WHITE HOUSE
>> INTERIOR APPROPRIATIONS VOTE DELAYED ALL WEEK!
>>
>>The US House of Representatives has voted down the Interior
>>Appropriations Conference Committee Report. This means that the
>>Conference Committee must rework the report. It appears that we will
>>NOT see another vote on Interior Appropriations this week. We
>>understand that the Conference Committee is considering very minor
>>changes to the report. This should result in a Presidential veto.
>>Unfortunately, the ESA does not appear to be "on the radar screen" at
>>the White House. We must re-double our efforts to RING THE WHITE HOUSE.
>>
>>Tell President Clinton that the ESA is not a negotiating tool! Ask
>>President Clinton to veto any Appropriations bill unless it contains:
>>
>> * No riders to Interior Appropriations!
>> * No roll back of the ESA!
>>
>>Make sure that the following numbers ring continuously for the ESA!!
>>
>>President Bill Clinton

>>The Interior Appropriations Bill would:
>> * continue the moratorium on the listing of endangered species
>> and designation of critical habitat.
>>
>> * cut funding for the ESA by 38%, one of the largest cuts of
>> any program.
>>
>> PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THIS ALERT AS WIDELY AS YOU CAN
