My last day out in the field for a few weeks, I again got out on the
research boat at Apple Cove Pt - 1-1/2 miles N of Kingston, Kitsap Co.
We got out there at about 7:20 a.m., and I had a bit of a chance to bird
before I had to concentrate on the work. The tide was high and ebbing all
morning, the wind was from the south at 15-25 knots or more, and we ended
up with 3-1/2 foot swells/chop. Did it make 60o F. today? Called it a day at
1 PM (read: got blown off the water). Still a bit of herring in the
area, the coho have gone by and the fall chum run is starting.... Got
the net on the bottom once, and picked up a 10" octopus! Neat....

This afternoon, there were about 150 gulls at the northwest corner of
Apple Tree Cove in Kingston - didn't have a chance to check them out, but
they looked big (Gl. winged/hybrids?) from the marina. Also watched some
poor guy's 30-plus-foot yacht sink (no one aboard) about 500 yards out from
the marina in Kingston... tsk, tsk.

Another fun day on the water....
